I need help with my DVD burner?

I have a LITEON EXZ-DUB external DVD burner and I have my tent Bruner a dvd and I 'm confused. I also have Nero Home Essentials 8.0 I think here. What I do not get is how to burn the DVD. The burner does not do what the manual indicates it should! So if anyone out there has the same or near the same product and knows how to use step by step help plz! I need to know how to burn a DVD.
