Security concerns with broadband multimedia networks?

Security is a concern of all employees of companies who use broadband multimedia networks. what are the principle technical components of a good security policy.

Depends on how large the company is. The larger the company, usually the more money can be made by hacking into the network and stealing, for example, financial records. If you are worried you might be targetted by a real hacker to obtain something from your network, you will need a lot more then just technical security, though. But I’m going to guess you just want general security to keep things like viruses and script kiddies out.

Get a firewall as the first line of defense. A firewall built into a router is not a bad idea. Give every PC anti-virus software (not every PC has to be equipped with a firewall, as long as you make sure there is a firewall between every PC and the internet). Make sure all computers get their updates for Windows automatically. Staying updated is VERY important. If you do all that, you will be quite safe. However, if you use Linux on every PC instead of Windows, you will be even safer. And it will be free, too. But getting everything to work then will probably require you to hire a Linux expert.
