It is to be a translator for a good job? (please answer if u experience?)?

I'm fascinated by other languages, and I want to learn as much as possible. But, Could I make my living with this skill? Could it really enough money to live for the translation? I am an American, and I know how much my country talking with others that are much larger and have more people, like China and the Latin world in general. Would this be a good job? It is a translator, even a job at all?

Hello, Captain Hellboy. I do not know how people become translators in your country. In mine (Argentina) we must study at a university during the time that an architect, a lawyer or accountant has to obtain his degree. Moreover, if we want to become translators and language was English maternal (Spanish (we must have a command the English language very well, for admission to a university. Once there, if we survive, we study 4 to 5 years depending on the curriculum of each university. Then graduate as certified translators, this means that we can make and sign (this is important) legal documents and out of signature is valid and recognized as a qualified professional. Where I live, being fluent in two languages is not enough to be a translator. Does translations can still do it anyway? Of course, but people see as professionals are expected to know our stuff and be reliable. We study the theory translation, the different types of translation and technical translation, discourse analysis, the different genres and their inherent characteristics, both in our native language and the language you want to translate to and from (usually English). We study the law, science, literature, some of the hard sciences, etc, in order to know at least something about each of them. Then, usually specialize in one field or more. However, no more, for example, three fields because it means that no specialization at all. Translating can make you feel lonely at times. you will usually work on their own and spend hours doing research, search for words and phrases in dictionaries in the reference books, and sitting at his computer. You will have to meet deadlines and to-sometimes-with the requests of customers rare, are given seemingly impossible to translate texts, and will be repaired before they can even dream of translation. If self-employment, will be more difficult to get good deals. If you work for a publishing company or a company, probably have to work more often, but you may not be well paid and is expected to work long hours. On the other hand, if you like the above, it is a rewarding job. It is also a matter of luck too, as with so many things. you might never find work … or you could find tomorrow and live happily ever after! What I can say without a doubt, is I think the world of translation truly amazing. Never stop studying and never stop learning and making interesting discoveries. It's hard work, but in my opinion It's more rewarding. The important thing is to really know your stuff because that's what will make a difference in your life as a translator: a customer probably will call more than once if it works well, no mistakes, reliable and simply do the job the right way. But remember we all have one chance to make a "good first print ". A faulty translation could mean the end of his career as a translator, depending on the severity of the errors and their client or workplace. I to say after all this: if the translation is what you like, then go! I wish you the best of luck. :) C.
